CRANFORD – Union County College (UCC) hosted a delegation of 18 leaders from vocational educational institutions in the Hebei Province of China on Thursday, Nov. 9. The group of leaders are visiting the U.S. for a two-week tour through an international partnership with New Jersey City University.

Vocational colleges are comparable to American community colleges, so in addition to their stop at UCC, the Chinese delegation is slated to visit a few additional community colleges in New Jersey.

The visit began with a welcome to UCC's Cranford campus from President Margaret M. McMenamin, who emphasized the function of a comprehensive community college as well as Union’s mission of transforming our community, one student at a time.

Staff members, administrators, and students gave presentations on UCC’s mission, demographics, academic programs, and college life in addition to sharing statistical information on graduation and enrollment. The visiting leaders then took a tour of the Helen E. Chaney Student Services Center to experience the "one-stop" concept of student services. Throughout the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to ask questions about the operations of departments and how they work together to provide an excellent student experience.

“Union County College was pleased to host the Chinese education leaders and to share with them our strategies for maintaining a comprehensive community college. It was a valuable experience to be able to connect with educational leaders from the other side of the world,” President McMenamin said.
