Free Lavy House Presentation on Volunteering and Jobs for 55+

An informational program on “Job and Volunteer Opportunities for People 55+”  will take place on Tuesday, March 28, 11:30 a.m. at  The Senior Resource Center at The Lavy House, 748 E. Broad Street, Westfield, NJ. The presentation by Sheri Brown, Jewish Family Service of Central NJ (JFSCNJ) Career Specialist and Nathalie Garcia, JFS RSVP Project Coordinator (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Union County, NJ) is part of a series of programs that are free and open to the entire community at The Senior Resource Center at The Lavy House. A light lunch will be served. Dietary Laws Observed.

Brown said,  “According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 20 percent of Americans 55 years and older will be working by 2017 and nearly 70 percent of workers who have not yet retired plan to work well into the traditional retirement years. "

Brown, a career coach who focuses on job search skills and strategies, uses her unique knowledge of recruitment and human resources to help job seekers navigate the current job market.

The event will also feature a presentation about volunteer opportunities available in and around the Union County community through the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) through JFSCNJ.  According to Ms. Garcia, RSVP Project Coordinator,  Many 55-plusers want a productive outlet for their spare time even if they are semi-retired or working part time. The RSVP program offers flexible volunteer opportunities in various placement areas such as: Food Pantries, Tutoring , Visiting the Elderly, Serving Meals at Congregate Nutrition Sites and opportunities to recruit and manage other volunteers.

The Senior Resource Center at The Lavy House is a joint venture between The Westfield United Fund and Temple Emanu-El of Westfield.  Through a grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ, Jewish Family Service of Central NJ provides programming and the services of Social Worker Naomi Kreutzer, LCSW, each Tuesday.  Programs are free of charge and open to the entire community.
