Girls Basketball: Dayton’s Team Effort Overwhelms Newark Collegiate 59-35

SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Everybody played again, six players scored, eight got at least a rebound, five made assists, and two blocked shots as the Bulldogs beat Newark Collegiate 59-35.

Dayton jumped out to a 21-13 lead in the first quarter and then increased it to 33-19 at the end of the half.  They widened the lead in the third quarter to 46-27.

Senior captain Nicolette Angelo scored a season high ten points, while making a game high eight assists.  A formidable presence under the basket, she blocked a game high seven shots, pulled down five rebounds and made a steal.

The other senior captain Amanda Lau led the Bulldogs with 15 points.  Those included three three-point shots.  She also dished off a game high eight assists, made six rebounds, and made two steals. 

Junior Caitlynn McTernan scored 12 points, which included two three-point shots.  She also pulled down six rebounds, made an assist and stole the ball once.  Junior Sayre Brandstatter scored 11 points and pulled down a game high seven rebounds.  She also made five assists and had a  game high five steals.

Senior Melanie Schickler scored eight points.  Sophomore Michelle Bellino scored three points, made two rebounds and blocked two shots.

Senior Zoe Frei pulled down four rebounds and made an assist.  Senior Julia Cohen had tow rebounds.  Sophomore Lily Dvorchik pulled down three rebounds.

Newark Collegiate was led by Zanai Venable with 20 points.

Aside from scoring 59 points, the Bulldogs made 35 rebounds, had 23 assists, stole the ball nine times and blocked nine shots.

Dayton is now 9-1 on the season and 4-1 in their division.  Their next game is away at 7 p.m. against division rival Hillside High School on Tuesday.

Woman Struck by Car in Bridgewater Mall Parking Lot Dies

Bridgewater, NJ - A Bedminster woman has died from her injuries after she was struck by a car in the parking lot of the Bridgewater Commons Mall Monday.
