SPRINGFIELD, NJ - The Jonathan Dayton Bulldogs varsity girls basketball team enters the 2016-2017 basketball season with a record of 15 winning seasons in a row.  Last year’s team ended the season with a record of 14 wins and 12 losses.

This year’s team brings back with it almost all of the experience from last season.  All but two players return from that team including four players that started almost every game.  Those players were the four top scorers of last year - Sayre Brandstatter, Amanda Lau, Nicolette Angelo and Caitlynn McTernan.  The newcomer to the team is Julia Cohen.  There is only one senior on the following player roster:

David Rennie is the Head Coach and David Campbell is the Assistant Coach.  This is Mr. Rennie’s 20th year coaching the Jonathan Dayton girls varsity basketball team.  Prior to this he coached freshman boys at Union High School and then varsity girls at Union High School.

Mr. Rennie is also Principal of James Caldwell Elementary School and Assistant Coach of the Jonathan Dayton High School Softball Team.   It is a position he has held since 2006.  Mr. Campbell also teaches third grade and is Head Coach of the boys cross country team and golf team at Jonathan Dayton High School.

Coach Rennie felt that a major strength of the team is the strong sense of camaraderie and friendship felt amongst the players on the team.  He went to say the players have a strong work ethic that extends to their studies.  Several players participated in AAU teams in the spring and summer as well as the summer league in Millburn.  On the team there are five players who will be inducted into the National Honor Society.

The team does have a history of some success winning the Sectional State Tournament in 2004-2005 and having at least four players go on to play college basketball.  They include Christin Zavocki at Lafayette College, Sarah Steinman at Moravian, Emily McDonnell at Moravain and Jac Kaczynski at Boston University.

This year’s schedule includes a four team tournament for boys and girls basketball on December 27 and 29.  The season’s schedule follows:
