Golf: Dayton Loses to Union Catholic in Match for Spot in Union County Tournament

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Dayton played Union Catholic in a play in match to determine the final team that would participate in Thursday's Union County Tournament.  Union Catholic won 179-191 and advances to the Union County Tournament.

Senior Daniel Greiss finished with a 39, birdying the challenging par 5 number three hole.

Number one golfer Daniel Greiss and number two Adam Berkowitz combined to beat their Union Catholic opponents in their foursome by eight strokes.  Berkowitz shot a 45.

Dayton’s number three golfer Scott Maran shot a career best 45.

The top three of Dayton were up by one stroke with one group left to report.  Union Catholic’s number four golfer shot a 49 to clinch the win.

Daniel Greiss and Jake Zeiman will represent Dayton Bulldogs Thursday at Echo Lake.

Alternate freshman Matt Zeiman continued the 2017 trend of alternates outshooting varsity players.  Matt shot a 56, paring the eighth hole and finishing the par 3 ninth hole with a bogey.

Dayton will take Union Catholic again Wednesday at Ash Brook in the regularly scheduled match.
