Hockey: Dayton-Brearley-Union Loses to Newark East Side, 2-1, in First Round of Divisional Playoffs

NEWARK, NJ – This was the first year of hockey for this tri-op team comprised of players from Jonathan Dayton, David Brearley and Union High Schools.  Its season ended with a 2-1 loss to Newark East Side High School in the first round of the Division Playoffs at the Barnabas Health Hockey House Wednesday afternoon. 

This game, like the first two games, was low scoring and decided by one goal.

The Red Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period.  Gabe Dos Santos got his first goal with seven minutes and 21 second left in the period.  Diego Martinez and Luis Martinez assisted on the goal.

David Dos Santos tallied the second Red Raider goal at 1:30 with an assist from Gabe Dos Santos.

The Bulldogs’ Victor Velazquez made it a one goal game at 2:58 of the third period on an assist by Brenden Smith and the game ended with no more scoring.

The Bulldogs’ goalie, Nick Facchini, stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced.  He counterpart for the Red Raiders, Matt Villacis, stopped 14 of 15 shots.

For the season, the Bulldogs were 3-10-2. 

Facchini faced 490 shots during the season and stopped 88.2 percent of them.  The teams top three scorers were Victor Velazquez with eight goals, JT Bokoski with seven goals and Daniel Dorokhin with five goals. is Springfield’s free daily news source. Woman Struck by Car in Bridgewater Mall Parking Lot Dies

Bridgewater, NJ - A Bedminster woman has died from her injuries after she was struck by a car in the parking lot of the Bridgewater Commons Mall Monday.

Marion Kelley, 62, was struck by a vehicle while walking in lot four near the Macy's merchandise pick up area at around 3:20 p.m. Monday.
