ALLENTOWN, N.J. — The Horse Park of New Jersey is celebrating its 30th anniversary year in 2018 and is working to update the footing in the competition arenas.

A capital campaign is underway to raise the needed funds.

Starting with the Grand Prix Arena, the plan is to provide a consistent, well drained surface without undulation that’s safe and stands the test of time. The mixture will offer energy return and confidence to the horse while having the ability to be groomed for the many disciplines that share the Park. In addition, the plan comes within reach of funding that has been raised to date through personal donations, pro bono work, grants, and groups.

Another $20,000 is needed to complete the first phase.

The first phase will take the Grand Prix ring from a center draining convex system to a concave 1% grade. The next step will provide the layers of crushed stone and fill needed to bring the arena to a slight convex draining system, from the center line an 1/8 inch per square foot to the rail. Compaction, then C33 Masonry sand at 2 inches with an auxiliary drainage area to handle runoff.

The Knocke Ring (East) and The West Ring will receive needed deferred maintenance as well.

To complete phase two, an additional $15,000 needs to be raised. In this phase, the installation of rubber will complete the Grand Prix renovation.

All three rings could receive rubber for the cost of $33,500.

Donors will be recognized for their contributions via banners at the park, through social media and other ways. If one major donor steps up, the arena could be named in their honor.

HPNJ is a 501(c)(3) educational charitable organization. Donations are tax deductible.

Contact the Park at 609-259-0170 or horseparkofnj@aol.com for information.
