Imagine Seeks Volunteers for January, 2017 Training Class

Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss, serving all of Union County and beyond, provides free grief support programs for children, teens and young adults who are coping with a chronic or terminal illness in the family as well as a loss due to death. The program also provides separate support groups for the parents and guardians of the children served. Currently located in Westfield, NJ, the center will soon be moving to Mountainside into a building that will be able to serve many more children in the community.

Support groups are facilitated by trained adult volunteers who attend a 32-hour training as well as regular continuing education.  Volunteers come from all walks of life and need no special background other than a willingness to listen, a heart inclined to serve, and the ability to be with children and adults in pain without trying to fix, solve or give advice. No prior experience is necessary. Volunteers must be 21 years or older. Volunteers serve as companions and loving listeners for those who are grieving.

"In order to continuously serve the most children possible and in the highest quality, we need to constantly train new volunteer facilitators," said Mandi Zucker, Imagine Program Director. "Our programs are growing because of the great need in this community -- over 700 children annually will lose a parent to death in Union County alone. Over 220 children and adults from 45 NJ towns are currently participating every two weeks at Imagine. Doing this additional training will ensure that no child will ever have to wait to get the support they need."

The next Imagine Volunteer Facilitator class will be January 26-29, 2017.   For more information please contact Imagine Program Director at 908-264-3100 or mandi@imaginenj.org or visit our website at www.imaginenj.org
