JCC Presents Oscar-Nominated Documentary Life, Animated on Feb. 21 a

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The JCC of Central NJ in Scotch Plains is hosting a free screening of the Academy Award nominated documentary Life, Animated on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. 

Life, Animated, produced in 2016, is a documentary film chronicling the coming-of-age story of a man with autism. It's based on the best-selling book Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes, and Autism by Pulitzer Prize-winner Ron Suskind about his son, Owen, who is on the spectrum. Owen Suskind stopped speaking at age 3, but learned to communicate again through his love of Disney animated films. Using video of Owen, animation based on his drawings and scenes from Disney classics, the film tells the story of Owen’s path to adulthood.

There will be an optional moderated discussion after the film with Josh Bornstein and Sharon Artz, both members of the JCC’s Special Needs Task Force.

The JCC of Central NJ is committed to the inclusion of people of all abilities, backgrounds, denominations, gender identity and religious affiliations and is screening this movie in February to coincide with Jewish Disability Inclusion and Awareness Month, a worldwide effort to raise awareness and champion the civil rights of all Jewish people to have access and be meaningfully included in every aspect of Jewish life.
