SPRINGFIELD, NJ – On Wednesday, Jonathan Dayton faced Oratory Prep at Meisel Park and came away with a 63-59 win.

Oratory Prep’s team is similar to Jonathan Dayton’s team.  Both have a a large program for a small school.

Coach Matt VanDeursen said, “We were missing several of our key athletes because of the break or illness, so to come away with a win is great for where we are in the season, especially since they won the conference last year.”

About why the Bulldogs won, the coach said, “Our freshmen accounted for well over half of our points.  Freshmen James Mooney won the 100 and 200, Jovanni Salcfas won the 400, and CJ Stavick won the long jump.  A lot of the new boys are finding ways to contribute, and are doing an excellent job so far.”

He ended with “The coaches and I are both very pleased with the progress we've made, and we share an excitement for the beginning of the championship season, as well as years to come.”

The next meet is Tuesday against Roselle Catholic at home.  The Dayton girls track team will also face Benedictine Academy.
