NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The Jonathan Dayton boys track team had its final dual meet of the season at New Providence High School Wednesday.  New Providence won the meet.

However, Coach Matt VanDuersen pointed out, “We did have some outstanding performances as we altered our line-up to prepare for the Penn Relays this weekend.”

The athletes and events highlighted by the coach were:

  • Jovanni Salcfas broke the school freshman record in the 400 meter hurdles of 1:03.2 from 2014 with a time of 1:02.5
  • Freshman teammate Patrick Machado nearly broke it with a time of 1:04.1
  • The freshman 4x400 meter relay team of James Mooney, Patrick Machado, CJ Stavick and Jovanni Salcfas smashed the existing record of 3:50 with a 3:46.

These athletes were just a sample as Coach VanDuersen said, “We had many other personal bests from the meet.  It gives us a lot of momentum heading into May when we begin our championship meets.
