SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Jonathan Dayton girls’ tennis team is looking to have another good season despite losing 13 seniors including three that played varsity tennis at third singles and first court doubles.  Coach Kaitlin Salmon said “We will miss last year’s players, but I believe this year’s players are up to the challenge.”

Coach Salmon said she is constantly looking for ideas to help improve the team’s skills and conditioning.  Typical practices are two hours and consist of “…lots of conditioning, agility drills, endurance sessions and practicing with each other.  Last year, Dayton’s record was 13-5.  They were seeded six in the NJSIAA New Jersey Section 2, Group 1 Tournament.

This year’s team has 17 players.  Seven will play varsity matches and ten will play junior varsity tennis.  Also joining the team is a new assistant coach, Jill Maged.  A graduate of New Providence High School and Rutgers University where she majored in Spanish, Maged teaches English as a Second Language at Jonathan Dayton High School.
