SPRINGFIELD, NJ - The Dayton Bulldogs defeated the Roselle Park Cougars, 187-235, Monday on the challenging front nine of Baltusrol Golf Club’s Upper Course. The Bulldogs were led by senior Daniel Greiss’s 43, and are now 5-1 on the season.
Senior Adam Berkowitz shot a 45. He and Daniel Griess each have one round out of the needed of his needed five scores of four strokes within par to qualify for the 2017 Union County Tournament and the Central Group 1 State sectional as an individual.
Daniel and Adam were joined by senior Jake Zeiman shooting a 48 and junior Scott Maran shooting a 51 and senior Connor Mahoney's 52.
Seniors Lee Roth and Alex Sirotkin rounded out the fifth and sixth spots in the varsity match with scores of 53 and 54, respectively.
Sophomore Sarah Rodrick was the Dayton alternate and she shot a 62, which was better the two of the four scores turned in by the Cougars.
Dayton has three more matches this week. On Tuesday they play the Bergenfield Bears at Knickerbocker Country Club. Wednesday, the Bulldogs are back at Galloping Hill to face the Elizabeth Minutemen. The last match of the week is Thursday when the Bulldogs face the Summit Hilltoppers at Ashbrook Golf Club.
Dayton is attempting to qualify for the NJSIAA Boys Sectional Golf Championships. In 2016, teams needed to win at least 60% of their matches to qualify. It appears the cut-off date is Friday May 5. The sectionals are held May 15 and May 16. The Tournament of Champions for the boys is scheduled May 22.
