Jonathan Dayton Golf: Starts Season with a Win, 186-220

SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Jonathan Dayton’s golf team started the season “looking to defend its 2016 Union County Conference Tournament Championship”, according to Coach Dave Campbell before the season.  Well, the team is off to a very good start.

Monday, they defeated Bergenfield 186-220 in a match at Baltusrol Golf Club.  Dayton’s top four scores placed in the top five and the fifth best score was good enough for sixth place.  Six players from each team competed with the top four of each used to determine the results of the match.

Dayton’s top three returning players played well.  Senior Adam Berkowitz led with a low score of 41, just five over par.  One stroke behind him with a 42 was Senior Daniel Griess, last year’s number one player.  Junior Scott Maran shot a 51, which placed him fourth.  Senior Jake Zeiman, a three year letter winner placed fifth with a score of 52.

Dayton's two other players were seniors Connor Mahoney with a 56 and Lee Roth with a 60.

Bergenfield’s freshman Brian Murdock shot a 43. 

Dayton played Scotch-Plains-Fanwood Tuesday afternoon weather permitting and then is scheduled to play at Union Catholic Wednesday at 4 p.m.
