Major Improvements Coming at the Springfield Free Public Library

SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Dale Spindel, Library Director at the Springfield Free Public Library, said she “…is pleased to announce that the firewall for the library's computer network will be undergoing a major upgrade on Thursday, May 25 and that the library's full integration into the operating system  of the Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium should be operational on June 1.”

One of the short term consequences of the firewall  upgrade is that  it will require the  shutting down of the library’s Internet network for a period of approximately two hours, most likely to occur between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  It is also possible that subsequent sporadic outages may occur up until about 5:00 p.m. that afternoon.

Patrons of the Springfield Free Public Library also need to be aware that of the services that they are accustomed to receiving are not going to be available between May 26 and May 31.

Ms. Spindel said, “Although library patrons will continue to be able to check materials out, library systems will temporarily be unable to check items in, place holds or renewals, accept payments of any kind, register new patrons or renew the status of existing patrons.”  " It is  essential that library patrons bring their library cards with them to the library during this time as staff members will be unable to look up patron accounts unless they are given the patrons's  complete bar code number," Ms. Spindel added

Ms. Spindel said, “We at the library are sorry for any temporary inconvenience this may cause.  Staff members are looking forward to restoring the library's complete range of services on June 1.”
