Mother Seton High School Sponsors Carnival for the Cure

Mother Seton Regional High School recently hosted "Carnival for the Cure" to support the school's Relay for Life team.

CLARK, NJ – Mother Seton High School recently hosted a “Carnival for the Cure” to support the school’s Relay for Life team.  The team, named “Setters for Survival,” and the student council welcomed over 90 students and guests to a night of sports, games of chance, dance and fun.

Among the activities were classes in Zumba, yoga and tap dancing. Getting into the swing of things was school principal Sr. Jacquelyn.

“I’ve always wanted to try Zumba,” she said. “And I really got a good work out. It was so much fun!”

Corinne Wnek, the school’s director of guidance and a cancer survivor, taught a tap dancing class during the event. She wanted to bring Relay for Life to Mother Seton so students would have a better understanding of survivorship.

“Cancer isn’t something that should be kept in the closet,” Wnek said. “We need to make people aware that there have been many new developments in treating this terrible disease and survivor rates are climbing every year. I am only one example of this, but almost every family has a story about cancer in the life of someone they love. As usual, Mother Seton students came out on a very stormy night to be there for others. We are so proud of our students.”

Survivors from the Circle of Hope support group stayed almost the whole night to lend their support to Mother Seton and try their luck with the game boards.  Renee Sarnecki, a nurse at the Rahway Regional Cancer Center, attended to thank everyone for their support for the Setters for Survival team

“It was such a fun night and it was so good to know that we were helping a good cause,” Mother Seton junior Katherine Blum said. “I am proud of all the hard work that went into this night being so successful because our school community came together.”
