SPRINGFIELD, NJ - The dream had already been realized, but the fulfillment of that dream has just been put on hold.

Anthony Cioffi (No. 37), the 6-foot, 205-pound rookie safety from Rutgers and Jonathan Dayton High School, received the news Saturday that he was amongst the final 36 players that were released from the Oakland Raiders in order to reach the NFL-mandated 53-player limit for an active roster.

Cioffi, listed fourth under strong safety on the Raiders unofficial depth chart throughout August, had a total of six tackles (five solo, one assist) and one fumble forced in four preseason games for the Raiders, including a start in the team’s final preseason game at home in a 17-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on August 31.

Now, he is awaiting some opportunities that might present itself in the near future.

At Rutgers, Cioffi tallied 168 tackles, two and a half sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and eight interceptions in a stellar “do-it-all” 47-game (33 starts) career, where he played cornerback, free safety, and strong safety.
