Pedestrian Struck by Bus in Mountainside was from North Plainfield

MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ - The Mountainside Police Department is investigating a crash in which a pedestrian, identified as German Rivas of North Plainfield, was struck by a NJ Transit bus on Tuesday March 21, 2017 at 4:25 p.m.

According to a press release from the department, the crash occurred on Route 22 East in front of the AMC Movie Theater.

Initial reports indicated that the pedestrian walked into the lanes of traffic traveling across the highway in a northerly direction towards the grass median.

Rivas was struck by the bus, which was in the inner (left) lane. He was treated at the scene by the Atlantic Health EMS and Paramedics then was transported to University Hospital in Newark by the NJSP North Star Helicopter. Rivas was admitted to University Hospital.
