UNION, NJ – A ribbon cutting took place Monday evening to launch the opening of the New Jersey Veterans Network (NJVN) office inside the Union American Legion.  The mission of the NJVN is to help New Jersey veterans and their families enjoy a sustainable quality of life by creating a network of community veteran liaisons to connect veterans with resources and programs designed to meet their unique needs.

“We are not going to abandon our veterans anymore,” said Mike Boll, President of the NJVN.  “So we decided to do something.”

Union County Freeholder Chairman Bruce H. Bergen, Vice Chairman Sergio Granados, Freeholder Angel G. Estrada, Union County Sheriff Joe Cryan, Assemblyman Jamel Holley, Township of Union Deputy Mayor Joseph Florio and Committeeman Clifton People, Jr. joined Mike Boll, Dave Tyms, NJVN Vice President, and Bob Jones of the New Jersey Veterans Network at the official opening of the group’s new office at the American Legion.

“This is important to us,” said Freeholder Chairman Bruce Bergen.  “A couple of years ago we said we can do more for our veterans, and we should do more.  In the last two years, we’ve been working hard to get the services we’re offering to match up with the services the veterans need."

“I’m here to say thank you, Michael, for all those veterans who can’t say thank you,” said Vietnam veteran and Township Committeeman Clifton People Jr.  “This organization can help all those men and women who may not be able to help themselves.”

The Freeholder Board will be sponsoring the New Jersey Veterans Network throughout the year as part of the UC HERO Veterans' initiative for 2017.
