ELIZABETH, NJ - A public meeting will be held on Monday, September 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the O’Donnell-Dempsey Senior Center, 622 Salem Avenue in Elizabeth. Caregivers and seniors are invited to attend, participate and express their views on the service needs of seniors.

“This public hearing is a good opportunity for residents to request services in areas such as caregiver support, utility assistance, affordable housing, transportation -- especially assisted transportation – and more,” Freeholder Chairman Bruce H.  Bergen said.

The meeting, conducted by the Union County Division on Aging and Disability Resource (ADRC), will provide the state with a report on the needs of seniors, including those identified by seniors participating in the meeting.

The service plan will list needs, establish priorities and explain how the federal Older Americans Act will be used in the plan. New Jersey must submit its plan to the administration every four years.

In accordance with a 2012 state initiative aimed at improving services for the elderly and persons with disabilities, the former Division on Aging was reorganized and is now known as the ADRC.

ADRC provides services to promote independence, wellness, dignity and choice for seniors and their families. Printed materials with information are provided in both English and Spanish.

The division’s other services include information and assistance, nutrition programs including home-delivered and congregate meals, the Farmers Market food voucher program, nutrition education and the state Respite Program.

For more information about ADRC call 908-527-4870 or toll free at 888-280-8226, or visit online at ucnj.org/departments/human-services.
