Soccer - Bulldogs Prevail Over Vikings on Penalty Kicks

Celebration begins after Jared Horowitz blocked second penalty kick in a row.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – In the first round of the Union County Tournament, Jonathan Dayton soccer beat the Union Catholic Vikings. 

The game was scoreless at the end of regulation time and after two ten minute overtimes.   The Bulldogs’ goalie Jared Horowitz stopped all shots that came his way. 

Since the game was not decided after two overtimes, the game was decided by penalty kicks with each team alternating shots.  The best of five wins the game.  The Bulldogs were the visiting team and went first.

The first two players attempting penalty kicks for both teams scored.  For the Bulldogs, those players were Anthony Nagy and Jordan Wendolowski.  Bryce Forys went third for the Bulldogs and he scored.  Horowitz blocked the third Viking attempt.  Diogo Varros then made it four in a row for the Bulldogs and Horowitz ended the game by blocking the second consecutive Viking attempt.

The win pushed the Bulldogs’ record to 9-4 for the season.  They play next at Roselle Park at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
