SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Brearley’s senior Michelle Capizzano shutout the Bulldogs for the second consecutive time including last year’s season finale.  It was her fourth consecutive shutout and that includes three games last year.  Unlike last year, the Bears were much more productive at the plate beating Dayton 10-0 in six innings.

Dayton was able to get only one hit by senior Arianna Griffith.  The Bulldogs made three errors that accounted for six of the ten runs.

Capizzano struck out 14, walked one, hit one batter and gave up one hit.  In last year’s NJSIAA North 2 Group 1 semifinal game against Dayton she pitched a seven-inning shutout in a close 1-0 game.  She struck out 13, allowed four hits and walked one batter.

Sophomore Bree Manresa was one for four and it was a home run.  Amanda Griffin went one for three.

Senior Karyn Shimazu, Capizzano and Smith each scored two runs.  The other four runs were scored by junior Caitlin Ryan, Griffin, Margaritondo and Manresa.

The Bulldogs are 1-1 on the season and have a 4:00 p.m. home game against Roselle Park Monday.

Brearley is 1-0 on the season and plays a 4:00 p.m. game at Scotch Plains-Fanwood Monday.
