SPRINGFIELD, NJ - The Springfield Board of Education meeting was held at 4 p.m. to accommodate those attending the Florence Guadineer Middle School Moving Up ceremony. A new contract for Superintendent Michael Davino was presented and approved unanimously. The term is for three years starting July 1 until 2020 culminating in a salary in the final year of the contract at $195,378.

Superintendent Michael Davino gave his report. On July19, the administrative team will attend a seminar on emergency preparedness done by the Principal of Columbine High School in Colorado. He also reported that PARCC scores will be out in early July and they will be reviewed by him and all the Principals. They will also be disseminated to the parents. The superintendent said results will be analyzed to see what changes may be necessary in the curriculum.

Three motions were added to the agenda to award contracts for the renovation of Jonathan Dayton High School Auditorium and Room 222, which is being retrofitted for Culinary Arts.

Director of Personnel and Staff Development Ellyn Atherton was recognized for her thirteen years of service as she is about to retire. She said “It was wonderful working with all of you. I looked forward to getting up and going to work every day.”  Robin Cornelison, Board President said,” Thank you for all of your help and all of your sharing. Your shoes will be truly hard to fill”.

Under new business, Superintendent Davino announced that the entire internet and phone system will be down for a week in late Julyand early August for repair. If the contractor cannot make that date work; it will probably be done over winter recess. He will start to get notifications out once the date is set.

The next meeting will be a joint meeting with the Township Committee starting at 6 p.m. on July 17. A regular Board of Education meeting will follow. The August meeting is being moved up a week to August 14.
