Springfield Boys Basketball: Dayton falls to red-hot Johnson, 50-27

SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Junior guard George Visconti scored 20 points, including three 3-pointers, and junior forward Joe DiProfio added 13 points to lead Johnson to a 50-27 victory over Dayton in Springfield.

The Crusaders used a 12-3 first quarter en route to a 24-15 halftime lead to take control of the game.

Sophomore guard Brandon Hund posted seven points for Johnson (7-0), which improved to 5-0 on the road.

Senior Nick Ulizio returned after a one-game absence to score 11 points with three 3-pointers and junior Antonio Salcfas added eight points for Dayton (3-4), which has dropped two straight games.

Senior Matt Kanengiser had five points with a 3-pointer for the Bulldogs.

“We had a tough night shooting the ball. Defensively, we played well keeping them at 50. They were able to extend possessions with offensive rebounds and second-chance points,” said Dayton head coach Robert Martin. “Moving forward, we will have to be more efficient on offense. They were 1.05 last night on points per possession and we were .68. When it’s a tough night shooting, we need to find other ways to score. We were 1-for-7 from the free-throw line. We’ll need to get more points from the line.”

The Bulldogs travel to Roselle Park on Thursday for a 7 p.m. tipoff and return home to face Metuchen in a Saturday afternoon tilt at 1 p.m.
