HOBOKEN, NJ - On the one-year anniversary of Dayton’s quarterfinal appearance against Hoboken in the state tournament, the same outcome occurred with the same player doing the same damage.

Senior forward/center Justin Davis scored a game-high 33 points with eight rebounds and senior guard/forward Tyshon Hanberry added 14 points with seven assists to lead third-seeded Hoboken to a 77-47 victory over sixth-seeded Dayton Thursday in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA/ShopRite North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 tournament in Hoboken.

Hoboken (18-9), which has won three of its last four and 12 of its last 14 games, advanced to Saturday’s semifinals and will play seventh-seeded and two-time defending sectional champion University, which upended second-seeded and city rival Weequahic, 75-61.

Freshman DJ Alicea scored a game-high 15 points with two 3-pointers for his second straight team-leading performance and senior Joe Kastner added 11 points with two 3-pointers for Dayton (11-13), which ended its season losing for just the second time in its final five games.

Junior guard Antonio Salcfas added six points and senior guard Nick Ulizio chipped in with five for the Bulldogs.

Last season, Hoboken upended Dayton, 56-47, at home as Davis scored a game-high 33 points with 12 rebounds.
