Springfield Boys Basketball: Delaware Valley drops Dayton, 68-48, Tuesday

SPRINGFIELD, NJ - With the county and state tournaments fast approaching, the Dayton boys basketball team is looking to find its way back in the win column.

Senior Kevin Scanlan tallied 19 points with three 3-pointers and junior Christian Hlinka added 16 to power Delaware Valley to a 68-48 victory over Dayton in Frenchtown.

Brandon Bernhardt had nine points and Joe Cansfield dished out eight assists for Delaware Valley (14-4), which used a 17-7 first quarter to take a 25-17 halftime advantage en route to the win.

The Terriers have won two straight and 13 of its last 14 games.

Junior Anthony Rajoppi posted his first double-digit performance of the season scoring 15 points, junior Antonio Salcfas added nine, and junior Ryan Lashuk added eight for Dayton (7-10), which has dropped three straight, four of its last five games, and dropped to 1-6 away from home.

The Bulldogs have trailed after the first quarter in five straight and 12 of its last 17 games.

Union County Tournament seeding

Dayton, the 20th-seed, will host 21st-seeded Koinonia Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the preliminary round of the Union County Tournament, it was announced Tuesday.

This game postponed its scheduled matchup with rival Brearley, which now will be played in Kenilworth on Valentine’s Day at 4 p.m.

The winner will advance to Saturday’s first round and visit fifth-seeded Union Catholic with a time to be determined.

Other UCT seeds include: 1-Linden, 2-Patrick School, 3-Roselle Catholic, 4-St. Mary (Eliz.), 6-Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 7-Westfield, 8-Union, 9-Johnson, 10-Rahway, 11-Plainfield, 12-Elizabeth, 13-Summit, 14-Roselle, 15-Hillside, 16-Cranford, 17-Governor Livingston, 18-New Providence, and 19-Oratory Prep.
