SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Friday was a little extra special for this year’s Dayton boys soccer senior class.
Seniors co-captain Hunter Gollin, David Tjan and Christian Mancini all scored first-half goals to lead Dayton to a 3-0 victory over Roselle Catholic on Senior Day in Springfield.
Senior Ethan Mosquera, Mancini and sophomore Dillon Nelson each had an assist for Dayton (9-7-1), which has won three straight and six of their last nine games.
10 seniors: Gollin, co-captain Ian Drogowitz, co-captain Jagger Kebea, Mancini, Anderson Silva Patrick Machado, Spencer Gary, Kieren Moss, Tjan and Mosquera all were honored with a pre-game senior day ceremony attended by parents, relatives and friends.
“We played all the seniors almost the whole game," said Dayton head coach Felix Fabiano. "There are always mixed emotions about the seniors, because they go and we have to rebuild, but the satisfaction of seeing them grow both as players and as human beings is amazing stuff.
"You see them as freshmen and then you see them leave as nice, more mature young men. They will always be a part of this program.”
The Bulldogs will lose eight starters for next year’s squad.
“With the 3-0 halftime the game, I decided to give some playing time to players who don't get in very much to give them some game experience,” Fabiano added.
The Bulldogs, who are looking for their 20th straight winning season, will host Governor Livingston in its last home regular season game on Tuesday (also the day the state tournament seeding is announced) and visit Rahway Thursday for its last road contest. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m.
