SPRINGFIELD, NJ — The Jonathan Dayton Girls cross-country team participated in the Union County Conference championships in the Mountain Division on Oct. 22. The team finished third overall.

The overcast day brought out some terrific times for the team members. Senior Co-Captain Abbey Hochreiner finished sixth overall. Hochreiner has been a top 7 runner for her entire career and earned All-conference honors for the third consecutive year. Going into the biggest races of the season, Hochreiner has put herself into position as a force to be reckoned with.

Senior Co-captain Emily Kessel also busted out and had her best race of the season. Kessel ran a personal record of 22:36 on the 5150-meter course. She has been a top runner the past three seasons and appears to be poised to be a big contributor for the County and Sectional Championships to be held in the next few weeks.

Sophomore Ayana Alles had the best race of her young career. Alles finished tenth, setting her own personal record at 22:51. The future is bright for Alles and she is only scratching the surface of how good she will be. Alles' work ethic is tremendous.

Kessel and Alles by virtue of their top 10 finishes will join Hochreiner on the All-Mountain Conference first team.

Excellent runs were also had by Senior Shannon Kennedy, Juniors Adriana Nyguyen, Abby Glass. Nyguyen has been a top-seven runner for her three-year career. 

Senior Co-Captain Ciara Corbett who has been battling injuries the entire season was able to get a strong run in. Sophomores Jennifer Chethalan and Huda Memmon ran in their first conference championship race.

The next race on the card is the Union County Championships that are to held on Nov. 4 at Warnaco Park.
