SPRINGFIELD, NJ - In an update posted to their Facebook page, the Springfield Environmental Commission updated residents on the plastic bag collection efforts so far.
Since introducing the bins at a township committee meeting and placing them at two heavily-trafficked locations in town, the Chisholm Community Center and the Springfield Free Public Library.
Over the past week, the environmental commission noted that over 60 pounds of plastic had been placed in the bins, and commended Springfield residents for their hard work in hitting the milestone. However, the group did also note that some styrofoam made it into the bins, which is a problem, as that is not a recyclable object.
Acceptable items for the bins include bread bags, biscuit wrappers, paper goods packaging, pasta and rice bags, frozen food and vegetable bags, confectionary bags, plastic bags, old green bags and cereal box liners.
