SPRINGFIELD, NJ - In a new push for greater plastic recycling, the Springfield Environmental Commission and Green Team are working to offer more alternatives for recycling in town with the goal of protecting the environment.

The environmental commission and green team have partnered with The Springfield Public Library, The Springfield Recreation Department and The Department of Public Works to unveil a new series of programs to help encourage more recycling. The first even in the program was a screening of the movie "Bag it" which was held this past Saturday at the library.

The next event in the process will take place on Saturday, April 21, when TREX collection bins will be placed outside of the library and the Chisholm Community Center. The goal is to get unneeded plastic to TREX, which will then use the raw material to create environmentally friendly plastic-based products. Springfield is also eligible to win a new bench made of recycled plastic if enough material is collected.

Finally, in May, the library will hold a second and final screening of "Bag It" for those who missed the first showing. The second-chance screening will take place on Thursday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m.
