SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Brian Platzer, author of the recently published novel Bed-Stuy is Burning, will be at the Springfield Free Public Library Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a reading and book signing.

Bed-Stuy is Burning, Platzer’s debut novel.  It was released by Atria Press on July 11 and has been described as “Do the Right Thing” meets The Bonfire of the Vanities.” New York Times bestselling author Ann Packer describes the novel as being “about marriage, gentrification, parenthood, race, and the dangerous bargains we make with ourselves,” and describes Platzer as a “tremendously accomplished young writer.” Rafael Yglesias, author of A Happy Marriage, describes the novel as being an amalgam of “the mordent wit of Franzen, the dazzling smarts of Roth, and the compassion of Tolstoy.” The Jewish Book Council called Bed-Stuy is Burning “heart-pounding and relentless.”

Brian Platzer has an MFA from the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars and a BA from Columbia University. His writing has appeared often in The New Yorker’s Shouts and Murmurs and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, as well as in The New York Times, the New Republic, Salon and elsewhere.
