SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Senior Michelle Bellino posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds to lead Dayton in a 46-34 loss to Elizabeth in Springfield Thursday.
Bellino leads the team in points (103) and rebounds (94).
Senior Casey Janker added eight points with four rebounds and sophomore Mya Sims-Taylor posted seven points with a 3-pointer and three steals for the Bulldogs (3-8), which has lost two straight and five of its last six games.
“We got off to another slow start, which hurt us. But after that slow start, we played even with them pretty much," Jonathan Dayton Head Coach David Rennie said.
However, Rennie also saw improvement from his team in the game, as players and peices have continued to mesh.
"We’re definitely improving. That was something we talked about right from the beginning of the season that we were fitting new pieces in, with new players getting to know one another," Rennie said. "Not just off the court, but certainly on the court in how each player plays. I think it's important that they develop relationships both on and off the court in order to gel as a team, and I think we're getting there.”
Sophomore Jalynn Clark scored a game-high 12 points and senior Camille Fleming added nine for Elizabeth (10-4), which led 25-13 at halftime.
Elizabeth sits atop the Union County Conference-Valley Division standing with a record of 6-0.
The Bulldogs, currently 1-6 in the UCC-Valley Division, hosts Plainfield on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m.
