SPRINGFIELD, NJ – In a non conference game, the Dayton girls traveled to Newark Collegiate Academy and won their tightest and lowest scoring game of the season, 31-29.
The victory pushed the Bulldogs’ record to 9-1.
Sophomore guard Sayre Brandstatter added 13 points and Junior guard Amanda Lau scored ten points. Brandstatter made three three point shots, one field goal and two free throws. Lau made two three point shots and two field goals.
Other Jonathan Dayton players that scored included junior forward Nicolette Angelo, junior guard Melanie Schickler and sophomore forward Caitlynn McTernan. Angelo made two field goals. Schickler made one field goal and McTernan made two free throws.
The Bulldogs pulled down 17 rebounds led by Angelo with eight. McTernan had five rebounds, Branstatter had three and Lau got one.
Taliah Whitson led Newark Collegiate Panthers with 13 points.
For the game, Dayton made six field goals, five three point shots and they were four of eight from the free throw line. The Panthers made 11 field goals, one three point shot and were two of nine from the free throw line.
Dayton led 9-3 at the end of the first quarter and at the end of the first half they led 19-17. The Bulldogs held on to their two point lead in the second matching the eight points scored by the Panthers in the third quarter and both teams scored four points in the fourth quarter.
Dayton (9-1) is 6-1 in the Union County Conference – Valley Division. The Bulldogs next game is 7 p.m. at home Tuesday against Elizabeth High School. On Thursday they play away at 7 p.m. against Roselle Park.
