SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Laura Castellano lives in Springfield and six years ago she decided it was time to try something new and that was she started her new endeavor as a photographer.  From June 5 to June 30, some of her photographs will be on display in the in the Donald B. Palmer Museum of the Springfield Free Public Library.

The path to the exhibit started with an ad in a local paper asking for local artists to submit their work. Laura responded and the library's Board of Directors chose to display her work.

Speaking of her exhibit, Laura said "My hope is that my work will resonate wth visitors and allow them to fill their homes with art that expresses joy, beauty or calm."  All works on display are available for sale and Laura will donate 20% of the proceeds to the library.

Before becoming a photographer, Laura was a social worker for 25 years, and a stay at home mom who raised three children (Paul, Luke and Melissa).  She also notes she was a faux painter, caterer and is currently a personal chef to two families in the area.

Six years ago Laura bought her first camera, a Nikon D700, to take on a trip to Italy.  Ever since has been fully dedicated to developing her passion for photography and art.  Her portfolio includes thousands of photographs from her travels and is inspired by nature, people, abstract art and "everyday simplicities".

She says some of her notable achievements include:

  • Two photos displayed in the See/Me Gallery 26-19 Jackson Ave. Long Island City, NY
  • Two photos displayed in Times Square, NY
  • One photo selected from thousands to be sold in an art exhibition in South Africa to raise money for a charitable non-profit company called "Emners vol liefde (Buckets of Love)
  • Shot the front cover of her sister's newly released book "A Walk in a Widow's Shoes"
