SPRINGFIELD, NJ – At the July 12 Planning Board meeting, Baltusrol Golf Club requested a variance for four parking lot lights and the variance was approved with the added condition of the lights being turned off by 9 p.m.

Kevin Vitale, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer testified that when caddies were coming off the course in the evening the parking lot was very dark.

Two neighbors testified that Baltusrol’s plan before the Planning Board eighteen months ago did not add lighting because they “wanted to be good neighbors”. These neighbors do not like the light pollution and felt it detracts from the value of their property.

A representative from Baltusrol testified that the lights are below the elevation of Montview Road and that the lights will shine downward and away from the neighbors. An agreement was reached that the lights will be shut off at 9 p.m.

The Springfield Community Pool improvement project had a courtesy hearing in front of the Planning Board. The project is going out to bid in August.

The next meeting is September 6 at the Township Hall.
