ELIZABETH, NJ – Springfield received grants of $100,000 from Union County this week.  The grants are to be used for two purposes; $75,000 for road improvements and $25,000 for equipment purchases.  Adam Lieb, Springfield's Director of Recreation, spoke of the $25,000 grant at the Township Committee meeting and said some of the money was used to purchase resistance equipment for seniors and would make their exercise offering more complete.

This week’s Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders meeting was dedicated exclusively to the presentation of checks.  “Senior Focus” and “Infrastructure and Municipal Aid” grants were presented to mayors, council members and representatives from towns across the county.

“Thank you for giving us this money because it helps keep our streets safe,” said Roselle Mayor, Christine Dansereau, who accepted a check that will go towards roadway improvements in her municipality. “What we sometimes forget is that dangerous roads cause accidents.”

Infrastructure and Municipal Aid Grants ranged from $15,000 to $100,000 for a total of $1.5m across the county. “That’s $1.5 million which will be backed up by the municipality. That’s $3 million in roads and infrastructure improvements this year – $9 million over the last three years,” Freeholder Christopher Hudak said.
