SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Fresh off last month’s dedication of the new bathhouse reopening at the Springfield Community Pool, Adam Lieb, the Springfield Township Director of Recreation sat down with TAPinto for a quick interview to provide an update on what is happening next with the pool.
Lieb said that the project, which began back in 2015 was started with approval from the Springfield Township Committee, which also approved other minor improvements around the grounds. He also said that while there may be further conversations.
“The Township Committee approved funding for this major renovation project to the bathhouse and some improvement to the grounds, which includes some new fence work, some new landscaping and other associated work with the building,” Lieb said. “There will have to be further discussions about additional projects at the pool which are really continuations of discussions that started in previous years about improvements to the pool itself, the baby pool, additional elements to the grounds but we’re not having those discussions right now.”
Lieb also said that members at the pool have given him positive feedback on the design choices made on the new pool building.
“We’ve gotten really good reviews in terms of design, architectural work [and] the new technology that we have down there,” Lieb said. “So, from what we’re hearing, yes very positive feedback about the new building. The cleanliness of it, the modern technology, the light that’s there [and] the color choices.”
Building off the positive feedback, Lieb said that membership is almost back to last year’s numbers, and that the new facilities should help attract new members to the pool.
“We track the membership numbers as we can,” Lieb said. “But I reported to the township committee at the last meeting that I attended that we were pretty close to 100 percent of last year’s membership in various categories and that was like a month ago, so by the time that our operation is in full swing, at the next meeting where I’ll be reporting , I’m sure we’re going to see spikes in many membership categories.”
Lieb added “Camp numbers are up, as I said, some pool membership numbers are up, we’re starting private party rentals down there which I’m sure will be an increase over last year now that we have a brand-new room to have the parties in. So, I think we’re going to see upward numbers in all categories,”
Summing it up, Lieb said that he expected positive membership growth and engagement to continue at the pool over the course of the summer.
