MILLBURN, NJ — At Tuesday night's township committee meeting, the Millburn Township Committee passed a resolution to enter into a shared service agreement with multiple surrounding towns starting next year.
The Townships of Chatham, Berkeley Heights and Springfield, as well as Florham Park Borough have all previously reached out to Millburn Township about providing animal control services. As noted by the committee, Millburn township has the capacity to provide such services.
As a result, the township approved consolidation of that particular service among the listed municipalities.
The consolidation is authorized under the Uniform Shared Services and Consolidation Act, which according to the state of New Jersey, "encourage[s] the financial accountability of local units of government through empowering citizens, reducing waste and duplicative services, clearing legal hurdles to shared services and consolidation, and supplementing, amending, and repealing sections of statutory law."
The shared services agreement will take effect starting on Jan. 1, 2020, and will run through Dec. 31, 2021.
