SPRINGFIELD, NJ - In 2009, the Jonathan Dayton Boys' Soccer team went on an incredible run, winning a string of games to capture the state title.

Now, 10 years on, the team reunited at halftime of Friday night's senior game for a special presentation. Each member of the team at the presentation was called out for a moment of recognition.

Additionally, the team was once again presented with their state championship trophy for a moment of celebration. For the alumni in attendance, the moment was incredibly special.

Giuseppe Paternostro was one of the captains on the state title-winning squad. He spoke with TAPinto, and said that for him, soccer at Dayton was more than just a diversion.

"It's very personal for me," Paternostro said. "About 11 years ago I lost my father. [I] was a junior here."

Paternostro's father Joe died of a heart attack, and as he explained, "soccer was everything I had."

"To go back on the field and be captain my senior year and just everybody gathering around for my dad, to just win those games and beat those teams like Harrison, the Glen Ridges...everybody doubted us. [But] on and off the field we hung out together.

"We went to breakfast together, we got lunch together," he added. "We did everything as a team, and we became one big family. I'm still close with these guys and it's truly an honor to be back here and enjoy the home crowd, and it's good to see the young guys still playing and the tradition still going on."

For head coach Felix Fabiano, seeing the 2009 team come back was special for him as well.

“At halftime, many of the state championship team members were present,” said Fabiano. “It was emotional and I hope it could inspire the current team to give the very best in the upcoming state tournament. This senior class is very special. Some of them have been on varsity since freshmen year and were part of the teams who won back-to-back sectional titles.”

The following members of the state championship team were present:

Aaron Hinkes, Ibrahim Salomon, Danny Osias, Andrey Zuniga, Sammy Dushkin, Bruan Reina, Peter Bianco, Brandon Moss, Zach Haliczer, Kenny Pereira, CJ Moriello, Jordan Sack, Guiseppe Paternostro, Asst. Coach Dan Jamnik, Asst. Coach Matt Schachtel, Head Coach Felix Fabiano.
