SPRINGFIELD, NJ – An electric transformer located on Mountain Avenue in front of a Shell Gas Station failed early Friday afternoon. It is estimated it caused over 900 homes and businesses in Springfield, Summit and Mountainside to lose power.
Springfield School Superintendent Michael Davino said Jonathan Dayton High School lost power around 1 p.m. Fortunately, the back-up generator worked and as a result, students will get as close to a full day of school as possible. When power was lost, students were escorted by the staff to their next classroom. Davino said, “The principal and the staff have been terrific.” He was told by JCP&L to expect power to come back around 4:30 p.m.
JCP&L is working to restore power and has three bucket trucks at the transformer. All afternoon and evening activities will go on as scheduled. One business forced to close was Investors Bank and they were directing customers to the Morris Ave. branch.
