SPRINGFIELD, NJ — The National Weather Service has declared a flash flood warning for the area late Sunday afternoon until 6:15 p.m. due to heavy rains. A flash flood watch will continue until 6 a.m. Monday.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots, according to the service.

The weather service advises, “Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”

The service also issued a wind advisory until 6 a.m. Monday. Strong wind gusts may blow down limbs, trees and power lines, it said, and scattered power outages are expected.
