PLAINFIELD, NJ - On Thursday, May 17, the Dayton Girls Track and Field team competed in the Union County Championships held at Hub Stine Field in Plainfield.
Coach Gregory Salmon said, “Our county is packed with many talented schools, but the Dayton girls had some very good performances that day.”
He started with, “First of all, a big congratulation to junior Caitlynn McTernan for being the county champion in the javelin.”
McTernan went into the final throws in first place with a throw of 105 feet, and then finished with a personal best of 109 feet, securing a first-place victory against what the coach described as “…a crowded field of other great javelin throwers.”
About McTernan’s effort the coach said, “Caitlynn works very hard at practice every day, and she earned this win with all the quality time she's put into the event. Congratulations to her.”
Two other Dayton girls scored in the top six in their events at this meet.
Junior Destini Stewart placed fifth in the triple jump with a personal best of 33 feet 10.5 inches.
Sophomore Cymantha Blackmon placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet 8.5 inches.
Coach Salmon finished by saying, “We look forward to our sectional meet this coming weekend.”
