SPRINGFIELD, NJ - The supply of solar eclipse glasses for Springfield's Great American Eclipse Party at the Community Pool fell short of the demand. Still, the event was well attended and the atmosphere was festive. Glasses were shared throughout the event. Children in particular were happy to take a few glances, but were more interested in swimming and using the playground.
Director of Recreation Adam Lieb said, “It was great to see so many people at the pool today for this exciting event. I hope all the children and adults will remember today’s eclipse for many years. I am very thankful to everyone from the various town departments and Union County College who helped make today’s viewing party possible.”
Township committeewoman Geri Bujnowski said, “I thought we had a great turnout to view the eclipse. It was really awesome.” Independent candidate Jeff Rosenberg said, “It is great to see the community come together for an event like this.”
The event included special guest speakers, Dr. Liesl Jones, Dean of STEM at Union County College, and Alison Gillen, Science Teacher at Gaudineer School.
