SUMMIT, NJ - Exercising regularly as we age can help prevent chronic age-related conditions like diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and more as well as boost memory and brain health. The Summit Area YMCA will be offering Enhance Fitness, a proven community-based senior fitness class that helps motivate older adults to stay physically active while increasing their strength, balance and flexibility while having fun too!

The program has been nationally recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US Department of Health and Human Services, US Department on Aging, and the National Council on Aging. According to “Implementation and effectiveness of a community-based health promotion program for older adults” in the Journal of Gerontology, there are proven results of a 90% participant retention rate with 53% of participants experiencing an improvement in depression, and fewer hospitalizations than those of non-participants.

Enhance Fitness is a 16-week senior fitness program designed to enhance balance and flexibility through modified moves that include cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and more to help adults lead stronger, healthier lives.  A typical 60 minute class includes a combination of warm up, aerobic, strength training, stretching, and cool down exercises.
