Summit's Eileen Serra Joins Family Promise Board as Non-Profit Elects New Officers

SUMMIT, NJ - Hilltop City resident Eileen Serra has joined the Board of Directors of Summit-based Family Promise, the national non-profit helping homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence.

Along with Serra, Kevin Barrett also joined the Board,and the organization announced the election of a new slate of officers for 2017:  Angela Schroeder, Chair; Cassandra Hardman, Vice Chair; Richard Vicens, Treasurer; and Neely Dodge, Secretary.

Serra is a Senior Advisor at JP Morgan Chase, focusing on strategic growth initiatives, following her recent role as CEO for Chase Card Services. Serra was attracted to the community-based approach of Family Promise. “Family Promise successfully engages thousands of volunteers on a national level to provide shelter, food, guidance and companionship to families in need,” she said, adding. "The ability to connect volunteers with a passion to give back with families in need on such a national scale is inspiring and also incredibly effective. Family Promise is distinct in its mission and I am proud to be part of the organization.”

Serra also serves on the Board of the Women's Refugee Commission.

Barrett is the President of Altegra Health, a Change Healthcare company, based in Weston, Florida.  “I’ve followed the work of Family Promise for several years and I’ve been impressed with the impact of their model nationwide,” said Barrett.  “They are run by a group of incredibly compassionate, committed and capable individuals determined to help reduce, and ultimately eliminate family homelessness in the US. I'm thrilled to join the Family Promise Board of Directors, and I look forward to working with the organization to help them serve families experiencing homelessness everywhere, providing the assistance and support that they so desperately need.” 

For more than 25 years, Family Promise has provided a local response to the national issue of family homelessness. The organization helps homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence by mobilizing volunteers and existing local resources, featuring 203 Affiliates in 42 states that utilize 6,000 houses of worship for overnight shelter; 180,000 volunteers from those congregations offer meals and support.

On average, 74% of the families served find housing within nine weeks of entering the Family Promise program, as the organization provides professional case management and support services. Since its inception, Family Promise has served more than 700,000 homeless and low-income family members, the majority of them children. For the past four consecutive years, the organization has garnered a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest rating possible, which indicates that Family Promise exceeds the standards of the nonprofit industry and outperforms most charities with similar missions.
