WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Board of Education approved the appointment of Susie Hung, Ed.D, as principal of Jefferson Elementary School effective July 24, during Tuesday night's meeting. Hung will replace Jeanette Munoz, who is retiring from the Westfield Public schools after more than 14 years as the Jefferson School principal.

Hung taught at Tamaques Elementary School from 1995-2003.

“I had a wonderful, wonderful experience working as a teacher,” she said.

Currently, Dr. Hung is the principal at Walton School in Springfield, NJ — the largest school in that district, serving 700 students from pre-K to second grade.

Earning both Doctorate and Master Degrees in Education Administration and Supervisions from Columbia university Teachers College, Hung also holds a Master of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.

“Coming back to Westfield has always been a desire of mine, and being away for 14 years, coming home is a really wonderful feeling for me,” Hung said. “I’m really excited to work with [Superintendent] Dr. Dolan, finally”.

Hung admitted that the interview process was both nerve-wracking and exciting.

“I wanted to make sure that I was ready to come back,” she said.

“Throughout the interview process, it was clear that Dr. Hung is a true educational leader who is well-versed in the academic disciplines at the elementary level,” Superintended Margaret Dolan wrote in a statement announcing Hung's appointment.

“It was great to see how many people really want to work in our district,” said board member Mark Friedman, who served on the hiring committee. “The positive energy of Dr. Hung certainly brought a lot of passion and interest in being part of our district.”
