SPRINGFIELD, NJ - The Dayton golf team has its entire 2016 Varsity roster returning.  The team’s record last season was nine wins and eight losses.

Number one ranked golfer senior Daniel Greiss returns.  He may be the best golfer in the program’s history and the only Dayton golfer to have ever qualified for the NJSIAA’s Tournament of Champions, which he did in his sophomore season.  He also finished second (tiebreaker with first place finisher) for the 2016 Union Conference Title and won this same title in 2016 (sophomore year).  Greiss qualified for the 2016 Union County Tournament (18th place) and Central Group 1 State Sectional on his own merit carding five scores that were within five strokes of par set for nine hole play at Baltusrol Golf Club and Galloping Hill Golf Course.

The number two and number three returning golfers are senior Adam Berkowitz and junior Scott Maran.  Both golfers were new to the 2016 team and made an immediate impact.  Both committed their summers to improving and the results are already evident.

Senior Jake Zeiman, a three year letter winner, rounds out the foursome that won the Union County Conference Tournament.  Jake should also play a big role in any of Bulldog's on the golf course success earned this year.

Starting with these four, the Dayton Bulldogs once again should qualify for the Central Group 1 State Sectional.  To do so, the team must win 60% of its matches.

A team goal for 2017 is to qualify for the elite Union County Golf Tournament held at Echo Lake Golf Club.  Only eight teams can qualify.  It is a goal to win the play-in match so the team can join hopeful individual qualifier Greiss and compete at Echo Lake in mid-May.

The Varsity roster is made up of the top six plus one alternate roster and is not set yet.  There is no junior varsity team.  Golfers will play a number of practice rounds during the month of March to determine who will represent the team at matches.

The other returning 2016 varsity letter winners are seniors Richard (Connor) Mahoney and Frank Forte, and junior Zachary Martini.

In addition the varsity letter winners, the other returning members of the team include sophomores Sarah Rodrick, Catherine Miller and William Brandstatter; and juniors Kevin Kennedy and Jacob Thompson. Newcomers to the team include seniors Lee Roth and Alex Sirotkin who hope to challenge last year’s top seven golfers and secure a varsity roster spot.

The rest of the team includes juniors Danny Sobel, Anthony Machado, Antonio Salcfas and sophomores Julia Cohen, Tyler Kwinta, Sayre Brandstatter, Joshua Silverstein; and freshman Matthew Zeiman.
