Union County Celebrates National Night Out in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Union County hosted National Night Out at Springfield’s Meisel Park Tuesday evening.  It was a well attended event.  Activities got underway at 6 p.m. and were followed by a showing of the animated adventure comedy "Secret Life of Pets".

A number of law enforcement agencies were on hand, including the Springfield Police and Fire Departments, the Springfield First Aid Squad, Rahway Police and Fire Department, Union County Prosecutor's Office, the Union County Sheriff's Department, and the Mountainside Police Department. The Union County Bureau of Recycling & Planning was also be on hand to provide important information. 

There were also unique educational events including a demonstration from Union County Department of Corrections about what goes on in correctional facilities.  One event featured Union County’s Bomb Defusal Squad. There were also demonstrations from Springfield First Aid Squad and its Fire Department that focused on the important roles they serve in the community.  The presentations were fun and interactive for children and their families.

There was roving entertainment provided by a local magician and a photo booth to capture the fun moments.

"Secret Life of Pets" tells the story of two squabbling pet dogs who end up in the outside world and find common ground against a gang of angry animals preparing an attack on humans.  The film features the voices of Louis C.K., Erick Stonestreet and Kevin Hart.  Free popcorn was available and there were inflatables for the kids to enjoy.

The National Night Out event was presented with support from AAA Northeast, ShopRite of Clark and Target in Union.
