Union County College Names Betancourt as New Governor to the Board

CRANFORD – At the December 5, 2017 Joint Meeting of the Union County College Board of Trustees and Board of Governors, Rafael J. Betancourt, of Westfield, was sworn in to serve as a new Governor. Union County College Board of Trustees Chair Victor M. Richel and Board of Governors Chair Elizabeth Garcia welcomed Mr. Betancourt to the meeting and initiated his swearing in.

Mr. Betancourt is an attorney and partner of the law firm Triarsi, Betancourt, Wukovits & Dugan, LLC, located in Cranford, NJ. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, and Puerto Rico. He has extensive civil and criminal trial experience. Mr. Betancourt's current area of practice includes commercial and residential real estate transactions; contract matters; commercial negotiations and business acquisitions and sales.

Mr. Betancourt began his career working as a special agent for the FBI and then as an assistant prosecutor for the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. He has represented various municipal clients, including Union County, Roselle, Roselle Park, and Westfield. In Westfield, he served as a Municipal Prosecutor and later as a two-term Councilman and Acting Mayor.

Fluent in Spanish, Mr. Betancourt serves on many professional associations including the New Jersey Hispanic Bar Association, the Puerto Rico Bar Association, the National Hispanic Bar Association, and the New York State Bar Association. He is currently chair of the Union County Bar Association Real Estate Committee.

Mr. Betancourt holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Puerto Rico and graduated cum laude from Tulane University.

Union County College is a public, comprehensive community college providing quality, affordable, accessible educational programs that serve the greater Union County region. It is the first of New Jersey’s 19 Associate Degree colleges, serving both career-minded and transfer-oriented students since 1933. The College enrolls almost 30,000 credit, non-credit, and continuing education students and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Woman Struck by Car in Bridgewater Mall Parking Lot Dies

Bridgewater, NJ - A Bedminster woman has died from her injuries after she was struck by a car in the parking lot of the Bridgewater Commons Mall Monday.

Marion Kelley, 62, was struck by a vehicle while walking in lot four near the Macy's merchandise pick up area at around 3:20 p.m. Monday.
