Union Public Library 2018 Summer Program

“Libraries Rock!” is the theme for this summer at the Union Public Library.  In keeping with this theme, both the Main Library (MN) and Vauxhall Branch (VH) have many exciting music and rock-based events planned for adults throughout the months of June, July and August.

The library kicks off it’s adult summer festivities at both the Main Library and Vauxhall Branch on Saturday, June 16th from 10 am to 4 pm.  Visitors who come in that day can pick up a Summer Reading Bingo card, shop our expanded Friends of the Library book sale, preview our summer activities, enjoy snacks and giveaways and learn how to download our digital media.

Two concerts will be hosted at the Main Library this summer.  The first will take place in July when the Union-based group David Aaron Trio comes in to perform live jazz, swing and big band music.  The second concert will take place in August when Rewind Rock Music arrives to perform classic rock hits from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

Union Public Library also has adult craft events planned for the summer.  In June, the Main Library has invited Adrienne, from Township of Union Community Garden to demonstrate how to paint decorative rocks for your garden.  Vauxhall Branch will also be hosting a program for making a beaded wind chime in July.  Both require patrons to be registered either over the phone or in person prior to the event.

The library will also be hosting three lectures in the summer.  In June, members of the Union Township Historical Society will be visiting the Main Library to speak about the History of Route 22.  A program about the history of the Beatles will also take place in the Main Library in July, and will be presented by Paul Groom who has a personal connection to Liverpool, the village where the Beatles were formed.  Lastly, in August, Vauxhall Branch will be hosting a book talk/signing with local author Barbara Kukla, who recently published a book about the history of the women’s suffrage movement in Newark.

In addition to the programs, a sweepstakes is planned for the month of June in which patrons who check out 5+ adult or teen items can be entered to win a $25 Amazon gift card.  Patrons who come in on Thursdays throughout the months of June, July and August will also be allowed to check out up to 5 DVDs at absolutely no cost. Patrons are additionally encouraged to look at the monthly calendar of events at www.uplnj.org for more programs and information.

All programs are free and open to the public and elevator access is available.
